A mixed bag

Each day provides us with an opportunity to create something. 'What can I make today?' is the question I love to hear from my inner self. Making things by hand is a way I share my love and a bit of myself. Each time I make something, I feel a satisfaction unlike any other feeling. I find such joy in gathering whats around me, dreaming and stitching it into something new and putting it to use in the hands of those I love...

I was using a hand made clutch as a cover for my tablet for a long time and it had turned shabby. So I wanted to make a new and colourful tab-cover. I found a green Baag-printed fabric and a plain green fabric in my stash, traced and embroidered a floral design on it. The idea was to embroider it with colourful threads.

The Baag-printed portion is quilted which gives the cover a cushioning effect and is secured with a snap button. I think the colour combination is very attractive.

The end result is neat and impressive.

This colourful pin-cushion is an intermittent work. It can be hung as a wind catcher or stand independently with two supportive safety pins.

Another project I undertook was making coasters for my daughter. I used some old unused CDs as the base and lo and behold!! What a conversion!

No gum has been used. The embroidered part has been attached with the under-lining at the side of the disc.

Soon to bring more projects and creations with fabric and thread to colour our lives! Till then...

A stitch in time....

Last year in August I had gone to US to help my daughter with her new born. In the beginning motherly love and care was showered profusely on her. Once things settled down, the creative bug inside me started becoming restless and I searched every nook and corner for a piece of fabric, even an old rag would do. Soon I got a pink piece of cloth in her place of worship, smeared with diya oil. I started working on it. At that time I had no picture in my mind what the final product would be.

Ultimately, I converted them into two cushion covers.

In the first one I did shashiko embroidery

And in the other one, I did free hand floral embroidery using lazy-daisy and stem stitches.

Not bad...what do you think....

Meanwhile, its a tiny needle keeper made out of scraps.

I have put a bit of sponge to give some body to the fish. A few of these pieces together can be made into a dream catcher.

Happy stitching till then....

Embroidered ballerina

Started my first blog with this hand embroidered ballerina. My daughter came across this picture and encouraged me to embroider it. Hand embroidery has always been my passion. I fret and seek restlessly to sew and embroider.

Being a mother of two daughters, I spent my life making cute frocks and later tunics for them. And now, since both of them are busy with their lives, I have shifted to my first love, that is embroidery. I still do manage to stitch for them but embroidery fascinates me.

Staying in Bhopal with one of my daughters, I got the opportunity to explore the awesome fabric of this region.

I'm planning to make tunics out of them, add some embroidery. Lets see how these turn out!
